Applewood Centers is a private, nonprofit agency providing mental health services, social services and education to children, adolescents and families living in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Dedicated to addressing a variety of behavioral, emotional and learning problems, we provide a continuum of care from outpatient counseling to residential treatment.

Position Overview: We are currently hiring a Teacher's Aide to join our team at the Reserve School. Applewood's Reserve School at Applewood Centers, Inc is a private school serving which has small classroom sizes with students grades 6-12 placed in residential treatment facilities in Northeast Ohio. We believe that helping students overcome obstacles in the classroom will help them overcome obstacles outside of the educational setting, and will reinforce their capacity to succeed despite life circumstances. Intervention specialists, regular education teachers, a student services coordinator and support staff, under the direction of the building principal, work closely with the residential treatment program, parents and guardians, sending districts, mental health clinicians and community partners to support each student in the program.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead Teacher in providing support to teaching staff in applying positive behavior management principles within a designed, individualized behavior program for students.
  • Provides individual assistance in implementing the academic program designed by the Teacher within the Teacher's classroom.
  • Under supervision from principal, leads school in PBIS model.
  • Implements PBIS model in classrooms and throughout the school day.
  • Applies behavior management strategies within team designed behavior management program.
  • Role model pro-social, mediation, and self-management skills.
  • Develop trusting, positive relationships among students and staff.
  • Identifies student's immediate needs, reports same to Teacher and provides follow through as defined by the Teacher/Team.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the student record through the timely completion of assigned documentation in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of child and adolescent development, human sexuality, family dysfunction, psychology, sociology, and behavior theory.
  • Openness to multi-disciplinary and eclectic approaches to treatment.
  • Strong clinical skills including systemic family therapy, crisis intervention, family education, behavioral interventions and substance abuse therapy.
  • Sensitivity in relating to persons of varying backgrounds and demonstrate ability to work with diverse groups of people possessing various strengths, aptitudes and abilities.
