Agency Summary:Applewood Centers is a private, nonprofit agency providing mental health services, social services and education to children, adolescents and families living in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Dedicated to addressing a variety of behavioral, emotional and learning problems, we provide a continuum of care from outpatient counseling to residential treatment.
Position Summary:The Behavioral Health (BH) Respite Provider offers a short-term break for the caregivers of youth ages 8-17 who are enrolled in the OhioRise program. Each session with the youth lasts 2-3 hours and takes place in a structured, safe environment that can be in the home, in the community, or a combination of the two. The BH Respite Provider supervises and engages the youth through companionship and the implementation of strategies to support their social, emotional, and behavioral development. Work hours are primarily evenings and weekends when youth are not in school.
Responsibilities Include:- Provide short-term, direct care to youth enrolled in the OhioRise program, as necessary.
- Maintain open and effective communication with youth, their family, and other members of the treatment team.
- Provide timely updates to family regarding the youth’s activities, progress, and any concerns observed during respite services.
- Provide transportation to youth to selected community activities.
- Plan and participate in recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities suited to the individual’s age and abilities.
- Ensure a safe, nurturing, and structured environment in line with the client’s individual care plan.
- Promote socialization and positive interactions.
- Collaborate with members of the treatment team to ensure continuity of care and alignment with the youth’s Individualized Treatment Plan (ITP), if applicable.
- Provide services that align with the Agency’s quality and productivity standards.
- Follow safety protocols established by the Agency.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the clinical record through the timely completion of assigned documentation in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.
- Respect the privacy of clients and hold in confidence all information obtained during the client’s treatment. All client-related documents should be handled in accordance with Agency guidelines on confidential material.
Qualifications: - Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field required.
- Licensure: QMHS certification must be obtained before billing services for the Agency.
- Other: Must be available to provide care during school hours, in the evenings and on weekends as needed. Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license, a working vehicle, and proof of auto insurance meeting state minimum requirements.
Experience:- Experience working with youth with mental health or behavioral challenges preferred.
Salary and Benefits:The salary for this position is $22.51 per hour.
