Applewood Centers is a private, nonprofit agency providing mental health services, social services and education to children, adolescents and families living in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Dedicated to addressing a variety of behavioral, emotional and learning problems, we provide a continuum of care from outpatient counseling to residential treatment.
Program Summary: Applewood Centers After School Group Therapeutic Services program provides intensive group counseling, onsite and virtually for children and adolescents between ages 7 to 18 who may be dealing with severe emotional and behavioral difficulties. The groups are led by therapists and other qualified mental health providers, providing children and adolescents with opportunities to learn skills that will enable them to be more successful in different areas of their lives.
Position Summary: As the Group Therapeutic Services Intern, you will work under the supervision of the After School Group Therapeutic Services Program Supervisor to provide group counseling and partial hospitalization services to clients in the After School Program.
Intern Experience Details: As the Group Therapeutic Services Program Intern, you will provide the following services, including, but not limited to:
- Co-facilitating After School Program Skills groups, with a trained ASP therapist
- Group Behavioral Health Counseling, co-facilitated with a trained group therapist
- Co-facilitating Mental Health Assessments alongside a trained group therapist
- Participation in weekly team meetings and department trainings
- Clinical documentation training including ASP and group counseling progress notes
- Other services necessary to the enrichment of the internship experience
Location: Services will take place at the Applewood Campus.
Hours: Field hours are flexible. Evening work should be expected.
Qualifications: This internship is for first Masters’ level students. Therefore, a Bachelor’s Degree and enrollment in a related Master’s program is required. An SWT, CT, LPC, MFT or LSW is required.
